Announcing our final Meet the Entrepreneur speaker of 2024, Olivia Humphrey

Olivia spent many years in film distribution at Roadshow Entertainment, BBC, and Austar/Foxtel before founding the independent streaming platform, Kanopy, which forged a new channel for streaming films to library members.

She spent the next 7 years scaling the business across North America and into Europe before selling to the private equity firm, KKR in 2021. Kanopy was listed as one of the top 10 Australian M&A exits that year, securing the platform as one of the great Australian media-tech success stories!

Olivia is an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at Curtin University’s Business and Law Faculty

Attendees will gain insights into overcoming imposter syndrome and exploring what it means to lead a meaningful life, drawing from personal experiences to inspire resilience and purpose in both professional and personal journeys.

The Meet the Entrepreneur Series is supported by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation through the New Industries Fund – X-Tend WA Program.
The 2025 Future Founders Youth Entrepreneurship program is the next Innovation Cluster program to take place, and we would love for you to get involved!

Future Founders is a free initiative aimed at nurturing the business acumen of local youth aged 16-25 by introducing participants to skills, knowledge and mentors designed to bolster their entrepreneurial capability.

Singapore International Agrifood Week (SIAW) 2024 Mission

AgriStart’s HARVEST Agtech Accelerator supported four Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development startup packages for HARVEST alumni to participate in the recent Singapore International Agrifood Week (SIAW) 2024 Mission.

This included the WA Showcase at the Agri-Food Tech Expo Asia (AFTEA), a Team WA welcome dinner with networking opportunities, exclusive access to SIAW networking events, and optional side tour programs.

Congratulations to alumni members Sofie De Meyer from MALDIID, Mat Welch from Red Earth Pollen and Rob Whyte from Hippie Brewing Co.
Experience a Premium Weekend Escape: Discover Unique Investment Opportunities in Innovation, Culture, and Sustainable Industries in the South-West

28th - 30th March 2025

AgriStart, Life Sciences WA and ForBlue are uniting to take technology developers, end-users, and investors on a regional journey to showcase investment opportunities in the South West of WA.

With it’s agriculture sector worth more than $2.36b, a $1.33b sustainable coastal and marine tourism industry, and health care as the South West region’s largest employer, this weekend escape will support cross sector opportunities through a mix of roundtable discussions, cultural experiences and networking, threaded with themes of sustainability and impact.

Down South adVentures Weekend is a satellite event for the WA Bioinnovation Symposium, and is one  of only 18 events in Australia and the only 1 in WA funded through the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry promoting agricultural innovation in regional communities and connect developers with investors as part of its Support Regional Trade Events Program, and AgriFutures Agritech Event Sponsorship Program.

CSIRO's Western Australia (WA) Food Industry Education Collaboration Program provides high-quality internships and workplace skills to help businesses solve technical challenges and support tertiary students transitioning into STEM jobs after graduation.

$2,500 is payable to industry partners on completion of the student placement, with additional funding available to support two student travel trips for regionally based businesses.

Here's how the program works:

  • Project scoping support – they help you identify where STEM talent can make an impact in your business.
  • Complete recruitment facilitation – Using networks and university access, they source, screen, and present a shortlist of high-calibre student candidates.
  • Your choice – You make the final call on who joins your team.
  • On-going support – With check-ins and support from the program team, they help you get the most of your STEM internship experience
